End of Champs Lacrosse Season
July 31, 2011

The James Gang travelled to St. Catharines on Saturday for game 4 of the Senior B semi-finals. Champs got off to a fast start with 2 quick goals by Matt and Chad Evans but the Saints battled back to tie it up late in the period. With 1 second to go, Champs Mike McNamara made it 3 to 2.

The 2nd period saw the Saints outscore Norwood by a 3 to 2 margin which sent both teams into the dressing room tied at 5 all.

St. Catharines came out in the 3rd and scored 3 goals to Norwood's zero and the game ended 8 to 5. The Saints win the best of 5 series and will meet the Owen Sound Woodsmen in finals. The winning team will advance to the President's Cup.

Champs Fall Short Again in Game 3
July 28, 2011

The James Gang took on the St. Catharines Saints Wednesday night for game 3 of the OLA Sr B Semi-finals. Down by 5 early in the second the Champs came back firing to score 3 quick goals. Unfortunately it wouldn't be enough.With a final score of 10-4 for the Saints, the series is now 2-1 for St. Catharines.

Champs goals scored by Mike MacNamara (2), Justin Kulla, & Mack O'Brien.

The James Gang will need to win game 4 in order to continue on the road to the Presidents Cup. The ball drops at 7:00pm on Saturday, July 30th at the Bill Burgoyne Arena.

Champs Fall Short in Game 2!

The James Gang headed to St. Catharine's for game 2 of the OLA Sr B semi-finals on Sunday. Though tied 4-4 at the end of the second period, Champs fell short in the third with a final score of 10-6 for the Saints. The series is now tied at 1-1.

Champs goals scored by Aaron Grayson (2), Justin Kulla, Matt Evans, Josh Wasson, and Gavin Barrie.

In game 2 of the other semi-final series, the Owen Sound Woodsmen defeated the Brooklin Merchants with a score of 13-8. The series is also tied at 1-1.

Champs take lead in Game 1 of the Semi-Finals!
July 23, 2011

The James Gang took on the St. Catharine's Saints in the first game of the semi-finals on Saturday evening at the Norwood-Asphodel Arena. After falling behind in the first period, Champs fought back to an 8-5 lead at the end of the second. When the buzzer rang at the end of the third the score was tied 9-9. Minutes into the second overtime period Champs secured the win with a goal from Josh Wasson.

Champs goals scored by Chad Evans (2), Justin Kulla, Matt Evans, Mike McNamara (2), Brian Croswell, Mack O'Brien, and Josh Wasson (2). Cole Murray had the win in net.

In the other semi-final series, the Brooklin Merchants defeated the Owen Sound Woodsmen 13-5 on Saturday evening.

The James Gang heads to St. Catharine's for game 2 of the series on Sunday at 7:00pm. Champs returns to the Norwood-Asphodel Arena on Wednesday, July 27th for game 3 at 8:30pm.

Engagements, Awards, and Playoffs Round 2!

After clinching first place with the final win of the regular season on July 13, Champs' Justin Kulla got down on one knee to propose to girlfriend Ashley Moore. After she said 'yes' the James Gang serenaded the couple with a rendition of "Hey Baby (I Wanna Know If You'll Be My Girl)."

Congratulations to Mack O'Brien for winning the OLA Sr. B Award for Best Two-Way Player and to Our goalies, Angus Dineley and Cole Murray who have won the Best Goaltender(s) Award!

Round 2 of playoffs begin this weekend when the James Gang hosts the St. Catharines Saints at the Norwood-Asphodel Arena at 8:00pm on Saturday.

Champs Secure 1st Place Finish in Regular Season
July 14, 2011

The James Gang secured first place in the OLA Senior B league on Wednesday evening in the final regular season game with a 11 to 6 victory over the Brooklin Merchants.

Champs goals scored by Mike MacNamara, Josh Wasson, Aaron Grayson (4), Justin Kula (2), John Loucks, Matt Evans, and Chad Evans. Cole Murray took the win in net.

With a last place finish, Ohsweken Warriors will not advance to the playoffs. In the first round of playoffs Brooklin will face Wellington and St. Catharine's will play off against Huntsville in a best of 5 series over the weekend of July 15. Round 2 of playoffs begin the week of July 22nd with the James Gang taken on the lowest ranked remaining team from round 1.

Champs Defeat Hunstville 13-4!
July 10, 2011

Champs hosted the Huntsville Hawks on Sunday afternoon in the Asphodel-Norwood Community Centre and came away with a 13 to 4 victory.

Angus Dineley took the win in net shutting out the Hawks until the 3rd period. James Gang goals were scored by Clare Donnelly, Aaron Grayson, Justin Kula (2), Brock Boynton, Matt Evans (2), Josh Wasson (2), Mark Farthing (2), and John Loucks (2).

Champs next home game, the final game of the season, is on Wednesday at 8:00 pm in Norwood. It's very tight at the top of the Senior B standings but a win against Brooklin will secure a James Gang 1st place finish in the regular season!

Champs Defeat Owen Sound Woodsmen
July 8th, 2011

Champs Sports Bar & Grill Senior Lacrosse Team hosted the Owen Sound Woodsmen on Friday night at the Asphodel-Norwood Arena and won the game by a score of 11 to 7.

Both teams played with great intensity which made for an entertaining evening for the lacrosse fans in attendance.

James Gang goals scored by Aaron Grayson (2), Chad Evans (2), Matt Evans, Mack O'Brien (2), Gavin Barrie, Brian Croswell & Josh Wasson (2).

The James Gang returns to the floor Sunday to take on the Hunstville Hawks. With only 2 regular season games remaining, Champs is currently tied with Owen Sound and Brooklin at the top of the standings. So come on out to the Norwood-Asphodel Arena Sunday afternoon and cheer the James Gang to victory!

Champs Unable to Come Back With Win
July 6, 2011
Norwood Champs Sports Bar & Grill Senior Lacrosse Team travelled to Brooklin on Wednesday to complete the June 23rd game that had been called due to unsafe floor conditions. With 4.59 left in the 2nd period and a full 3rd period, play resumed with Brooklin leading by a score of 9 to 5.

In the end, Brooklin came away with a 14 to 11 victory.

The James Gang returns to the home floor on Friday to take on the Owen Sound Woodsmen. With only 3 games remaining in the regular season the James Gang needs your support in the stands as they fight for top position heading into playoffs.

Game Cancelled Due to Floor Conditions
June 24, 2011

Norwood Champs Sports Bar & Grill Senior Lacrosse Team travelled to the Brooklin Luther Vipod Arena Thursday night to take on the Brooklin Merchants.

The game was called with less than 6 minutes to go in the second period as the floor became very damp. This caused many players to slip and fall. Jason Wiswell, head referee called the game before someone got seriously injured.

The James Gang has a two week brake before taking on the Owen Sound Woodsmen (Friday, July 8th) and the Huntsville Hawks (Sunday, July 10th) at home to finish off the regular season as scheduled.

Champs Defeat Wellington Titans 8-4
June 20, 2011

The James Gang travelled to Elora on Sunday evening and defeated the Wellington Dufferin Titans by a score of 8 to 4.

Champs goals scored by Aaron Grayon (3), Jackson Gair (3), Josh Wasson, and Gavin Barrie.

Cole Murray was in net and turned in another great performance.

Leading the way for the Titans was Nic Grasby with 2 goals and 2 assists.

The James Gang's next home game is on Friday, July 8th against the Owen Sound Woodsmen. Both teams are currently tied for first place so this game will be of great importance for playoff positioning.

Champs Defeat Brooklin 11-10 with 6 Seconds Left!
June 19, 2011

Champs hosted the Brooklin Merchants at the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Saturday afternoon as part of the Jeff Davis Junior "B" reunion.

The James Gang took a comfortable 9 to 3 lead but the Brooklin Merchants came back to tie it at 10 to 10 late in the 3rd period.

With less than a minute to go, Champs called a timeout and offensive coach John Martin drew up a play which was not only very exciting, but well executed and resulted in the winning goal by Jackson Gair, assisted by Chad and Matt Evans, with only 6 Seconds left in the game.

The James Gang took on the St. Catharine's Saints Sunday afternoon at the Norwood-Asphodel Arena. The second matchup between these two teams lead to an exciting game for the fans.

Champs Remains At The Top Of OLA Standings

The James Gang defeated the 5th seated Wellington Titans at the Norwood-Asphodel Arena last night with a score of 10-3.

Cole Murray took the win in net, with Champs goals scored by Jon Hiltz, Mike McNamara (2), Joel Wasson, Jordan Hill, Josh Bean, Mark Temple, Jackson Gair, Clare Donnelly, and Aaron Grayson.

The James Gang returns to action tonight taking on Saint Catharines at the Norwood-Asphodel Arena at 4pm. All kids who attend tonights game will take home a gift courtesy of Champs Lacrosse!

NOTE: The home game against the Brooklin Merchants originally scheduled for Wednesday, June 8th was cancelled due to local weather conditions. Details of the rescheduled game will be released when available.

Champs defeat Hunstville Hawks 11-10

The James Gang travelled to Huntsville on Saturday to play the last place seated Hawks. Champs took a 7-3 by the end of the 1st, but Huntsville fought back to within a single goal heading into the 3rd. Aftering tieing everything up at 10-10, Jordan Hill scored the winning goal for Champs with 4 minutes remaining in the 3rd.

The Jame's Gang took the lead early on with 6 goals in the first period. With a final score of 14-5 Champs advances their record to 6-1, maintaining their position at the top of the league standings.

Champs Endures First Loss of the Season

Champs Sports Bar & Grill Senior Lacrosse Team travelled to Owen Sound on Saturday, May 28th and were defeated by a score of 13 to 8.

Owen Sound got off to a fast start and ended the period with an 8 to 2 lead. The second period saw 2 goals only for the James Gang and none for the Woodsmen. Owen Sound outscored Champs 5 to 4 in the third.

Our next home game is this Friday at 8:15 pm in Norwood against the Ohsweken Warriors.

Champs Winning Streak Continues

Champs Sports Bar & Grill Senior Lacrosse Team travelled to St. Catharines on Friday night to meet the newest entry in the Senior League.

With a final score of 18-8, the James Gang came out firing right from the first whistle. Angus Dineley led the defense with a superb night in goal.

Matt Evans led the James Gang with 6 goals with additional goals scored by Aaron Grayson (2), Chad Evans, Jon Hiltz (2), Josh Wasson (2), Mack O'Brien (2), Mike McNamara (2), and Gavin Barrie.

The next game is away in Owen Sound on Saturday May 28th at 7.00 pm and we return home on Friday June 3rd at 8.15 pm to host the Ohsweken Warriors in Norwood.

Champs defeat the Hunstville Hawks in Home Opener
May 15, 2011

Champs Sports Bar & Grill Senior Lacrosse Team hosted the Huntsville Hawks at their home opener on Sunday, May 15th in the Asphodel-Norwood Community Centre with an exciting 15-6 win.

Cole Murray played goal for the first time in a couple of years. He completely shut the door in the 3rd period and showed why he was one of the top goaltenders before he went into semi-retirement.

Justin Kula lead the Champs with 5 goals with additional goals scored by Aaron Grayson, Jackson Gair (2), Chad Evans, Brock Boynton, Matt Evans (2), Josh Wasson (2), and Mack O'Brien.

The James Gang designated this game as Kids Day and every youngster went home with a prize. Lucky draws were held for lacrosse sticks, hats, crayola, golf games and t.shirts.. The big winner was Aden Temple who won the bike and helmet.

Our next home game is on Friday, June 3rd against the Ohsweken Warriors.

Champs defeat the Ohsweken Warriors 9-6

Champs Sports Bar & Grill Senior Lacrosse Team travelled to the home of the Ohsweken Warriors and came away with a 9 to 6 victory.

Ohsweken Warriors had several new young players that never quit during this exciting matchup. Leading the way however with long time veteran Kim Squire with 3 goals.

Champs goals scored by Aaron Grayson, Jackson Gair (2), Joel Wasson, Matt Evans, Josh Wasson, Brad Holborough, Mike McNamara, and Jeremy Crowder.

Our next game is the home opener, Kids Day, on Sunday, May 15th at 4.00 pm in the Asphodel-Norwood Community Centre against the re-vitalized Huntsville Hawks.

12-11 Win over the Brooklin Merchants
May 8, 2011

Champs Sports Bar & Grill Senior Lacrosse Team met a fited up Brooklin Merchants team, who had just come off a win against the powerful Owen Sound Woodsmen on Saturday. It was 5-0 for the Merchants half way through the second period before the James Gang finally got on the scoresheet. Norwood never gave up and used all of the 3rd period to even the score at ten all. Champs then took a 12-10 lead, reduced to a 12-11 win when Brooklin scored their 11th goal with 5 seconds left in the game. It was a gritty performance by Champs!

Exhibition Game: Champs vs. Brooklin Merchants
April 21, 2011

Champs Sports Bar & Grill Senior Lacrosse Team travelled to Brooklin on Thursday night to meet the Brooklin Merchants in a pre season exhibition game.

Champs came away with a 15 to 9 win. Both coaches were given the opportunity to assess new and returning players. Three goalies dressed for Champs and each played one period. Cole Murray played the first period after a year out of the game, and returning goal tenders Angus Dineley and Craig Robertson played the 2nd and 3rd period respectively.

Champs Sports Bar & Grill Senior Lacrosse Team are pleased to announce the following times for the first 4 open practices. Everyone is welcome and we ask that you bring all your own equipment. The Training Camps will be held in the Warsaw Arena.

ANOTHER SEASON OF CHAMPS LACROSSE
March 25, 2011

Champs Sports Bar and Grill Senior Lacrosse Team are pleased to announce they will be returning to the Asphodel-Norwood Community Centre for another year of exciting Senior Lacrosse.

Most players have commited to return along with some graduating Juniors, player acquisitions and there has been an expressed interest from some former players wanting to re-join the team. Names will be released upon their signing which will commence the first week of April.

Coach Jim Johnston along with John Martin and Dalt Downer will lead the team as we compete for the 2011 President’s Cup which will be held in Akwasasne.

John Welsh, Rob Johnson and Doug Cordery have joined the executive and have been put in charge of marketing and special events. These men are well known throughout Peterborough within the hockey and football worlds.

The league now consists of 7 teams with the addition of a very strong entry from St. Catharines. The schedule will see each team play 16 games – 8 at home and 8 on the road.

Champs Sports Bar & Grill Senior Lacrosse Team opens on the road in Huntsville on April 23rd. Our home opener is on Sunday, May 15th at 4.00 pm in Norwood. This will be our "Kids Day" progam and we will provide further details as we get closer to this date.
